VIRGINIA MANN DALE
SAVANNAH - Virginia Mann Dale died at her home in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, July 8, 2007. Virginia was born on 24 December, 1917 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Gerald and Elizabeth Mann. Virginia grew up in Donna, Texas and later moved to San Antonio, where she met and married Hayden Brush Wood in 1939. The couple had two children, Charles and Suzanne, and were married for 35 years until Hayden died during surgery. Virginia moved to Atlanta, where she lived for seven years before being introduced to Robert Dale, a resident of New York. Virginia and Bob married in 1983 and, after living 5 years in Scarsdale NY, built a home at the Landings on Skidaway Island and relocated to Savannah in 1986. Bob and Virginia traveled extensively and were active with Bethesda Boy’s Home and the Kiwanis, and Virginia was a member of the DAR Virginia loved entertaining, golf and playing bridge with her friends. She was devoted to her family and loved walking her little dog. The couple was active in the Landings golf community until Bob’s sudden death in 2003.
Mrs. Dale is survived by her sister, Jeri Hall; son, Charles Wood; daughter, Suzanne Marsh; four grandchildren, Shelby White, Wesley Wood, Eric Wood, and Ashley Pendergrass; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Wood.
Virginia’s devoted friends comforted her to the end. The family gives special thanks to these friends, the caring Hospice workers with Vista Care and the loving care givers of Comfort Keepers.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 11 at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Humane Society of Savannah, 7215 Sally Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 13117, Savannah, GA 31416.
Virginia was the epitome of the southern lady. Her wit and intelligence will be sadly missed. Absent on earth but present with the Lord. My heartfelt prayers are with you.
